DIY Hay Bag

Have you ever found yourself needing an extra place to offer hay to your livestock? Maybe you have a bully that is chasing others from the feeder or maybe you just need several and are just tight on cash. Well you can make a hay bag easily enough with things you probably have in your feed room.

You just need..

  • Empty Feed Sack. Preferably plastic material
  • Hay String. I use the strings from the hay bales
  • A knife or scissors

Start by cutting out two squares along the bottom, about a hand span in size.

Squares cut out.

Then along the top, an inch or two from the bottom cut holes just big enough for a finger to fit through. In total your going to want to cut about 5-6 holes spaced somewhat evenly on each side.

Starting in the back, thread the hay string through the holes. Stopping where you started.

You can then pack the hay bag. Pull the strings tight to cinch closed, and then tie it from a post or section of fence.

Quick and very simple to make. These are also a nice way to repurpose materials.
